Kitchen shears are an indispensable and versatile tool in the modern kitchen, enjoying widespread popularity for their convenience and practicality. However, improper use can not only affect cooking efficiency but also pose safety risks. Understanding and following proper usage instructions is key to ensuring the longevity and safety of kitchen shears.

First, check the blades of the shears for sharpness and tightening screws before use. If the blades are dull or loose, they should be promptly repaired or replaced to prevent slipping or excessive force during cutting. When cutting, it is recommended to place ingredients on a stable cutting board or flat surface and keep your fingers away from the blades to prevent scratches.

Second, while kitchen shears are designed for cutting ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and chicken bones, they are not suitable for all materials. Avoid using shears to cut through hard metal packaging, frozen foods, or hard bones to avoid damaging the blades or causing the shears to deform. For thicker ingredients, it is recommended to cut in batches to avoid excessive force that could cause the shears to slip out of your hand.

After use, clean the shears promptly to prevent food residue from accumulating and breeding bacteria. When cleaning, it's recommended to wipe with a soft cloth and neutral detergent. Avoid soaking scissors in water for extended periods, especially for models with plastic handles, as this can shorten their lifespan. After cleaning, ensure the blades are completely dry to prevent rust.

Also, store scissors out of the reach of children and, if possible, hang or secure them in a dedicated knife holder to avoid accidental injury. If not in use for an extended period, apply a small amount of cooking oil to the blades to prevent oxidation.

Proper use and maintenance of kitchen shears not only improves cooking efficiency but also extends the life of the tools, ensuring safe and hygienic kitchen operations.
