The maintenance cycle of kitchen tools directly impacts their lifespan and safety. Tools of different materials and functions require different maintenance frequencies to ensure hygiene and stable performance.
We recommend cleaning and drying stainless steel knives and cutting boards after each use. Wipe the surface of cutting boards with food-grade mineral oil weekly to prevent cracking, and disinfect them monthly (this can be done by soaking in white vinegar or boiling in water). Knife edges should be professionally polished quarterly to avoid chips that affect cutting efficiency.
The coating on non-stick cookware is extremely fragile. After each use, allow it to cool to room temperature before cleaning with a soft cloth. Do not use steel wool. Inspect the bottom of the cookware monthly for deformation, and evaluate the coating integrity every six months. Replace any noticeable scratches or peeling immediately.
Wooden cookware (such as rolling pins and wooden spoons) should be lightly oiled weekly to prevent cracking. Gently rub with a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda monthly to remove stains. Avoid soaking in water for more than 10 minutes.
Maintaining electrical appliances (such as blenders and rice cookers) relies more on regular inspections: clean the blades of any debris and lubricate the bearings monthly, and inspect the power cord insulation quarterly for signs of aging. Ovens and microwaves should be descaled weekly with citric acid, and the temperature control system should be inspected annually by a professional.
Rubber/silicone products (such as seals and potholders) should be cleaned every two weeks with a neutral detergent and protected from direct sunlight, which can cause hardening. Replace aging parts every six months, especially seals that are frequently exposed to high temperatures.
A well-defined maintenance schedule not only extends the life of your tools but also ensures hygienic cooking. It's recommended to create a kitchen maintenance calendar, categorizing maintenance schedules by tool type to ensure each appliance is always in top condition.
